What GHK-Cu is
GHK is a tripeptide: three amino acids, glycine, histidine and lysine, linked in a short chain. It binds tightly to copper, and that copper complex is GHK-Cu, also listed on ingredient labels as Copper Tripeptide-1. It was first identified in human blood plasma in the 1970s by the researcher Loren Pickart, whose later work found that levels in the body fall with age.
In skincare, GHK-Cu is used for the look of firmer, smoother, more resilient skin.
What the topical research shows
The strongest human data for topical GHK-Cu comes from placebo-controlled studies. In one 12-week study of 41 women, a GHK-Cu cream reduced the look of lines and wrinkles more than a placebo cream, as summarized in Pickart et al., 2015. Those studies tested GHK-Cu in a cream, not any specific finished product, and the results were about appearance.
There is no evidence that GHK-Cu behaves differently on men’s skin. The research simply hasn’t split results that way, and the biology it targets is shared.
Why men tend to drop copper peptides
Not because they don’t work, but because serums are fiddly: droppers, sticky fingers, a product that sits on the shelf. The ingredient matters less than whether you’ll use it every day for 12 weeks.
What’s different about men’s skin
On average, men’s skin is a little thicker and produces more oil, and most men shave part of their face several times a week. In practice that means three things: a lightweight format that doesn’t feel greasy, a fragrance-free formula that won’t sting freshly shaved skin, and a routine short enough to survive a busy morning.
How to use GHK-Cu
- When: at night is easiest, especially if you shave in the morning. Mornings work too, under sunscreen.
- Where: the areas you care about most. For many men that’s the forehead, the lines around the eyes and mouth, the jawline and the neck.
- With what: sunscreen, moisturizer and niacinamide all pair well. Many people keep copper peptides apart from strong acids and pure vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), using those in the morning and copper peptides at night.
- How long: daily for 8 to 12 weeks before judging. Take a photo in the same light on day one.
Topical vs. injectable GHK-Cu
GHK-Cu is also sold online in vials as an injectable “research peptide,” often marketed to the same audience interested in fitness and biohacking. That is a different product category entirely. Injectable GHK-Cu isn’t approved for human use, its contents and purity aren’t regulated, and any decision about it belongs with a doctor. We only make topical skincare. Our guide to topical vs. injectable peptides explains the difference in full.
Where it fits in our stick
The Collagen + Copper Stick is being developed with GHK-Cu alongside Matrixyl 3000 and collagen peptides, in a clear, water-free, fragrance-free base. You can read more about the ingredient itself on our GHK-Cu page.
The bottom line
GHK-Cu is one of the better-studied peptides for the look of firmer, smoother skin, and it works the same for men as for anyone. Use it topically, keep it consistent for 8 to 12 weeks, wear sunscreen, and leave injectables to doctors.
